Happy weekend and welcome to my new fashion feature: Curvy-Comfort Saturdays!
[cue Joey Russo’s “Whoa!”] The word “fashion” looks so funny coming from me since I’m the kind of girl who needs Venus and Pluto to align before I have a cute outfit on AND makeup on AND hair done all at the same time. Pedicures and jewelry might as well be UFOs and aliens. Nope. I’m no fashion bingo player. The kind of aesthetic I’m talking about is fashion that is all about curvy comfort. To me, this means a wardrobe that is:
Finding garments that have all of these 3 qualities can be tricky so I came up with Curvy-Comfort Saturdays to share with you the winning pieces I’ve discovered lately (and where you can get’em)!
“You always look so…comfortable!”
When I was a young girl, I LOVED dresses. In fact, you couldn’t get me to wear anything else. (Except for my purple leotard. Gah, I miss that thing!) Momma had to wrestle me into jeans or sweat pants or footy pajamas, and I would sob in protest. As I got older, however, dresses fell by the wayside, and by the time I entered college, I’d gained so much weight that I lost all interest in cute clothing and turned to sweat shirts and pajama pants. In a strange way, big, saggy garments made me feel beautiful; like I was wearing a nun’s habit or a toga.
After a while, however, I noticed that compliments such as “You look great!” or “I love your outfit!” were replaced with: You always look so…comfortable.
This comment never bothered me, though, because I enjoyed being comfortable. I did, however, miss dressing up. Finding the right jeans and shirts proved tricky for my shape, but I discovered that dresses rarely disappointed. Rediscovered, I should say. My childhood self knew all along the garment that would serve me best in the end. 🙂
In August I attended a blogger’s conference called Haven, and as I perused the vendor booths, I came upon a boutiquey-looking business called Glamour Farms. Boutiques. I usually don’t give them a second glance because they never carry anything in my size! However, a super-cute shirt dress on their racks sucked me in, but it was the mission of the company that held me there like a magnet. Glamour Farms is a unique online store that offers chic & contemporary styles, with a little bit of sass, to complement every woman’s natural beauty. Each garment is selected with the customer in mind, which include, yay!, curvy women. Glamour Farms is also a family business run by such warm and genuine women who want to help you find the best look for you. (I mean, heck, they even assisted me in finding the right pair of skinny jeans. That’s not a task for the faint of heart!)
I recently took their Northern Lights Tunic for a test drive and here is how it stood up to my 3 requirements…
YES! I can dress this up with boots for an evening look:
Dress it down with tights and ballet flats for a day look:
OR even tie the shirt to one side and pair with shorts for a casual look:
Trying to bust out of an all-black wardrobe but aren’t sure if bright colors will flatter your figure? (Though I will say that this Ahh-mazing long tank top shaper is the perfect staple to have on hand!)
I love wearing bold colors because it means I don’t have to accessorize as much to have my outfit pop. Make that, accessorize at all. (Gah! I’m not even wearing my wedding ring here because my eczema is in a flare.)
Ohhhhhh, yeahhhhh. Like, fall into bed comfortable. I mean, look at me crouched up there in that first pic. The crouch test is the TRUE test of comfort, I tell ya.
I give the Northern Lights Tunic gets two big
boobs thumbs up!
