One of my favorite blogs, Jones Design Company, occasionally publishes posts about what is currently going on in life.
Thought I would do the same since there are a lot of good little bits to share. 🙂
#1. I DECIDED TO HIRE….MYSELF
My job situation has been up in the air since I got laid off in July. I did have a couple prospects in the works, but I did not have a peace about one of them and the other fell through.
Feeling that perhaps it was about time I go out on a limb and start my own empire, I decided to hire myself out as a “handywoman.”
When I worked full-time, I was constantly frustrated by the lack of time I had to get my deep cleaning, organizing, projects, meal cooking and yard work done. Now that I am a free woman, I would like to offer those same services to busy people who just want to come home to a beautiful home.
The way I see it is it’s always nice to know a good handyman…but it’s especially convenient to know a good handywoman!
So here is a picture of my business card. I think it gets the message across, don’t you? 🙂
(For those of you in need of a handywoman, I’ve posted business info on my “Keeping Up…” Facebook page.)
#2. I SAVED $600
Here is a picture of what our backsplash looked like a week ago:
And here is a picture of what it looks like now:
A few weeks ago, we got an estimate for how much it would cost to tile our 30-foot backsplash.
The number was staggering: $600 not including tile.
[insert droopy shoulders here]
Before the estimate, I had the mind to do the tiling myself. However, we decided to play it safe and leave the job to the professionals.
AFTER the estimate, however, we decided “why not give it a go?”
It took me a week and a few broken nails but as of yesterday it’s all finished and our kitchen is finally the lovely space I envisioned it to be three years ago.
More details of the project to come. In the meantime, I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow. 🙂
#3. I QUIT EATING BREAD & SUGAR
Ok, nobody panic (least of all me!). I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a 30-day Paleo cleanse for the past month and decided to take the plunge after I devoured an entire meatball sub from Subway only to wonder where the rest of the meal was.
My appetite was out of control and I needed to lay down the law.
The final straw was when one of my blog buds posted a Q & A about the Paleo-style eating she and her family have fostered for the past 2-1/2 years. For her full post, visit Simply Domestic!
For those of you who are not sure what “Paleo” dieting is, it’s basically a meat-veggies-healthy fats kinda eating style.
So far I am on Day 3 and it is going good. If anything, this cleanse has forced me to plan out my meals which are DELICIOUS thanks to the recipes at NomNom Paleo.
I am not hungry and I feel strong and in control.
The only place I feel weak is in my mind. I mean, food is comfort and tradition and love! Why should I cut out gingerbread and pie just for health?
Nevertheless, I still plan on following my plan as close as I can for the next 30 days and have decided to stick with Paleo eating while also leaving room for the occasional S’more. (Cuz it’s FALL Y’ALL!)
