I dreamed a dream in times gone by,
Of ceilings fans and rooms worth living.
But the fires come at night,
With their flames as loud as thunder.
As they tear your home apart,
…they turn your shame…to DREAMS!!!
I’m not a singer, but today I thought it fitting to introduce the recent completion of our 2-month project with a little Les Mis. 🙂
Back in November, we awoke to a fire ripping apart what we call the “Rumpus Room.”
To be honest, it was the best place in our house for a fire to occur because the room was hideous, poorly sealed and in desperate need of a remodel!
Our biggest point of contention were the poorly insulated walls which were covered inside and out with vinyl siding.
As much as we wanted the siding gone, however, what on earth would we discover underneath if we dared *gulp* pry it off?
Thankfully, trained professionals spared us that adventure.
Ever since I met this house, I have always imagined this room dressed in white beadboard walls, wicker ceiling fans and Mexican tile.
Here is my imagination come to life:
Since there wasn’t any previous flooring for our insurance to replace, we will have to furnish it ourselves later. Stay tuned!
Still, it feels so luxurious to have tight-sealing doors and thresholds to keep the mice out.
Even the cats are impressed…and all the more eager to go outside.
Our new room is like a box of eternal springtime. You enter it and immediately the sun wraps its arms around you.
I’m eager for all the loose ends to be tied up in here because I have plans for many a potted plant…
…and many a tea party.
As for the neighboring laundry room, it’s a complete disaster which we hope to remedy sometime in the spring or summer.
In the meantime, we are all enjoying our little piece of heaven.
Our Rumpus Room.
Our shame that turned into a dream.
