It’s officially fall which means it’s time to clean windows in da Smith house! Why? Because the spring dust storms, summer rain storms and pre-autumn pecan tree sap-storms have passed. (It’s a messy business living in Texas.) Now, I understand that cleaning windows ranks right up there with an afternoon at the DMV, but as we head into winter, you’re gonna want as much bright, happy natural light flowing into your house as possible.
As a kid, window cleaning was always such an ordeal. Momma would wad up newspaper, use up half a bottle of cleaner and twist in all kinds of positions to make sure there weren’t any streaks left. It was an effective yet pain-in-the-butt method. A couple years ago, Momma introduced me to Norwex cleaning cloths, and now I get clean windows in seconds! There are few products I truly stand behind, but I stand behind the Norwex Basic Package Micrfiber Cloths. Besides time, these cloths have saved me from breathing in all the cleaning chemicals I normally would in my day job.
Here’s how I get clean windows in seconds with Norwex®
These two cloths (aka, “Basic Package”) are the only products I use to clean my windows AND my bathrooms (with the exception of a toilet brush–no getting around that!). The microfibers in these cloths are laced with antimicrobial technology making them even more effective than commercial bleach wipes.
The Basic Package comes with:
- 1 Envirocloth
- 1 Window Cloth
To clean windows, run the Envirocloth under hot water until completely soaked, then wring until damp.
Next, wipe down your kitty-nose-smudged windows using the damp cloth. You can really feel the fibers gripping and scrubbing all the grime off!
Finally, take the dry Window Cloth and wipe down the window again:
And that’s it!
I usually clean a room’s worth of windows before rinsing the Envirocloth in hot water again and moving on to the next room. When finished, give each cloth a final vigorous rinse in hot water, then wring as much water out as possible before hang-drying on a rack or doorknob.
Here’s the before and after of our bedroom windows:
Look at that! A whole new set of clean windows for wet noses to smudge up again in seconds. 🙂
As I mentioned earlier, I also use these cloths to clean my bathrooms. I start at the mirror, then work from the sink to the toilet to the shower. In 5 minutes, my bathroom is not only clean, but also disinfected.
