Mind if I get something off my chest?
I HATE CLUTTER!!!!!!
I always have, always will and will always look for ways to combat it.
Unfortunately, Smith Cottage has clutter-prone which are as follows:
- The traffic jam of shoes in the entryway.
- The daily mail/random paper explosion in the study.
- Every single thing in every single drawer.
- Closets. Period.
- The mosh-pit of tools in the laundry room.
- Everything else in the laundry room.
Is it the same for you, too? Please tell me I am not alone in this mess. Fortunately, just because our homes have clutter-prone areas doesn’t mean they have to stay that way. All we need is a trick or two.
Whenever I need DIY inspiration, I like to visit Hometalk. It’s a lot like Pinterest, only it’s specific to home and garden. All I had to do was search “organization ideas” and I found all sorts of tricks ranging from magnet frames for makeup to wire hangers for shoes.
Concerning clutter, it’s really tempting just to toss everything into a sack and stash it in a closet. (Which I did as a kid…and it led to a mold problem.)
No, the only true way to defeat it is to have a place for it. But not just any place. I’m talking a very specific place. (Otherwise, you’ll be tempted to cheat and grab that sack, mold problems be damned.)

On a budget, as well? Here’s a list of gadgets you probably already own to help you sort everything into place:
- Mason Jars, Old jars, Jars, Jars, Jars
- Woven baskets, Plastic baskets, Baskets, Baskets, Baskets
- Old picture frames
On the count of three everyone say, “We’ve GOT this!”
No, really, organizing is fun! A lot more fun than tripping over shoes or rummaging for a ladle anyways. 🙂
