What do you wish your home smelled like?
To me, a good-smelling home smells like lavender and patchouli and peppermint. And maybe a fresh loaf of bread. In short, I think a good-smelling home should smell like a Whole Foods. 🙂
Since our house is older AND we have cats, it’s a bit tricky keeping our olfactories satisfactory. Plug-in wax warmers and open windows help, but sometimes I just need an extra dose of lavender on my pillows, curtains and blankets. After a quick internet search, I found this informative recipe for a DIY lavender linen spray.
Want an extra punch of fragrance without all the VOCs and artificial perfumes? Here’s how to mix your own simple DIY lavender linen spray:
You will need:
- 1/2 cup distilled water
- 1/2 cup vodka or rubbing alcohol
- 15-20 drops 100% pure lavender essential oil
- 8-oz spritz bottle
Pour water, vodka and oil into the spritz bottle. (The alcohol helps disperse the oil through the water.)
A strip of pretty shelf paper is the perfect solution for a simple label.
Shake the bottle before each use and spray on linens, pet beds and even clothes for a natural moth repellant.
Note: To maintain the potency/integrity of the spray, keep bottle out of direct sunlight.
Is lavender oil safe for cats and dogs?
Yes. Pure lavender essential oil is safe for cats and dogs, but to see if your particular friend is allergic, keep on eye on their response to the spray before continuing use. Our kitties have not shown any signs of an allergic reaction.
